I thought I might share some ideas I’ve heard or am using to prepare physically for the grueling test of OCS! This page will be updated more and more as I talk to OCS grads and maybe even after I go through OCC myself!

Marines Pumping Iron
Run For Your Life!
First and foremost, every Marine/ OCS grad i talked to recommended MORE RUNNING as a part of my preparation. Probably very few civilians will be used to the amount of running necessary to complete OCS.
Also to keep in mind is the varied nature of the running. Of course, there will be the several-mile runs, but also much more sprinting and short runs mixed up with calisthenic-type activities. Vary your running with practice for “humps,” or long marches with heavy packs.
Unique Exercises
Second is a nice link to a unique exercise I hadn’t heard about before talking to Marines. The exercise is called a ski jump.
The Donkey Kick is another one of these excercises fitness buffs probably aren’t used to seeing in a gym.
Calisthenics
Next are the great cardio calisthenics exercises shown here, which you will be doing at OCS!
Which class did you apply to?
Did u need a high ASVAB score to get selected?
- USMC OCS Applicant OCC-210
No. Your college GPA counts for academics/mental scoring, and you do not take the ASVAB to become an officer.
I had to take the ASVAB because my SAT was a 950. If your SAT isn’t at least a 1000 for the old SAT you have to take the ASVAB and score at least a 74 to be considered for OCS. College GPA isn’t taken into account unless you meet the minimum on one of the two tests. I scored an 85 on the ASVAB.
Ah thanks for the information. I didn’t know that.
